EIHL Game Notes; Clan vs Stars

For the second instalment of the EIHL Game Notes Series of the 2026/27 season, we look at Glasgow Clan vs Dundee Stars.

A unique match up, as both clubs are owned by the same company, yet, ran ‘independently’ of each other.

It is not their only thing in common, as each occupy some of the worst stats and run of results so far in this early EIHL season.

Clan have recently parted ways with Mike Sirant, who lead his largely retained team to slump to one regulation win in 12GP, 0/7 in the league and 0/16 on the power play.

Stars meanwhile, also one regulation in 11GP and yet to win the league (0/4). With a new coach, daily operations and almost brand new imports to their Scottish-lead Brit quota, there is a little more forgiveness toward the Taysiders, than the Clansfolk of Braehead.

Nevertheless, this is a cup game, where only three points separate them, yet Clan have 7 games left and Stars have 5 for their group B campaign.

A win for either team would do them a world of good to settle some nerves and frustration, one that could create a foundation to change fortunes going forward.

Stars are not only the most goal shy in the cup (11), but also they have the worst GA record (29) – something they would need to address and quickly.

A win for them would close the gap by a single point, yet with the leeway, Clan would only need to utilise what is left of their fixtures. A win for the Clan, would see them leap frog the Flyers by a single point – creating a dynamic rivalry for that final progressional route.

Clan L5GP; 2-2-1 (One of 2 teams to be Giants so far this season) – Top Player; Cade Neilson 6pts, 5GP

Stars L5GP; 1-1-3 (Only regulation win was against Clan) – Top Player; Rasmus Nousiainen 4Pts, 7GP

Game Score & Report

It was a night that fortuned the brave, as the Scots do ever so well, with two up against it teams battling it out for relevance, pride and respect.

As mentioned above, they have had a hard time of it so far this season, with a lot more to say about themselves and so they did.

There were 4 bouts throughout the game, with lots of afters, accounting for exactly 70 PIMS.

Stars were electric on the special teams, converting 100% of their chances, killing 100% of their own and when the game went to OT, wasted no time at all, even scoring one of the fast in EIHL history, after 5 seconds.

There was a hat-trick, a Gordie Howe Hatty and the Clan lost their lead 4 times, in a back and forth, barmy midweek fixture in the middle of October.

The outcome was emphatic, especially for the road team, being two goals down after starting the third frame down one marker, to find two timely power play nuggets and tie the tilt.

The timing of that OT GWG was sublime.

For the visitors, it was a much needed win to finally get over the line. As stated on the EIHL Face-Off Podcast, they are moving the right direction, just need to find that extra yard.

For the Clan, it was a much needed chance for a regulation win lost, a rued opportunity to get back to winning ways, sorely missed since a big victory over Giants on September 27th.

They have lost the most in OT (3) and are now tied with Flyers for 7 points, but sit outside of the progression table for now. Each have played 50% of their cup games after tonight, so it will be a huge battle to secure that last slot for the next round.
