Preview vs Flames

Challenge Cup Game week 2

Devils host Guildford Flames in their 3rd game of this seasons’ Challenge Cup campaign, aiming to maintain their 100% record so far.

Flames would be looking to continue their form, after destroying Panthers in their last game, but struggled on the road vs Steelers.

Currently, Devils’ Cole Sanford leads his team with 5 points, from 2G and 3 helpers.

The point scorers from the weekend would definitely be looking to build on their early success and Devils would look to keep atop of their group to maintain momentum.

Guildford however have brought over some former Devils themselves, many with a point to prove.

From Waller and Burman, to Busch, Coughler and EIHL journeyman, Cole Ully, this should add some spice to the fixture.

Burman had a great game vs Panthers on Sunday, earning a 94.74 SV%, whilst Stoever earned his first professional win vs Steelers in an OTW.

Recent History

Last season in the Cup, Devils skated off with victories over Flames, outscoring them 10:3.

Flames finished bottom of their group with Devils making the cup final, finishing as runners-up.

You would have to go back to November 2023 where there was a gong show, when Flames last beat Devils, in a 7:5 goal fest.

The season before that had seen the old format have a tied series between them.

Ones to Watch

It goes without saying that former Devil and 2022 playoff champion, Jake Coughler should be one to watch as he is back to full fitness and has already logged 2 points in 2GP for the Flames in cup action.

A further player to keep an eye on would be Mattieu Gosselin, with a brace of apples so far for his club.

For the good guys, it comes as no surprise to maintain a sharp eye on their leading scorer, Cole Sanford (5), who also won the clubs’ last domestic silverware with former line mate, Coughler.

A further mention would be for Josh MacDonald to fully announce his arrival to the season on the scoresheet proper, as he has just one lone apple to his name.
