CARDIFF, WALES – Another mid week clash, another one vs Steelers. Another must win game. Another match night with a lot riding on it.
What the home team and crowd are hoping for is another good night vs Steelers at home and to avoid another defeat against the top table teams as they look to move back up the standings.
It is a stark contrast to when these two teams last met in the league, however since then they have battled it out in the cup semi finals, with Devils romping away victorious and permanently ending their opponents treble retention bid in the process.
You would think, that after all of the yo-yo games between them, with home form taking hold and after that defeat in the cup, this would be the most determined Steelers team Devils will face this season yet.
Once again this season, the home team find themselves in a tight spot, after a drubbing from Giants on the weekend, succumbing to 10 unanswered goals and increasing calls for coaching changes.
It was definitely one of the darkest and most turbulent points of the season, even under PR’s leadership so far.
He certainly didn’t like it. All the while, Steelers are back to form, scoring to fun in some cases and only dropped one point in their L5GP.
Devils have some advantages going into this clash, faring better on net overall. However, since they last played in the league, Steelers have built on their PP to 26PPGs overall in regular season.
Devils have just 21 PPGs and sit 7th, behind Steelers by 2.56% on the PP. They are massively separated on the PK however, Devils still lead despite giving up a shorty in their last game, leading by 10.31% as Steelers languish in 9th for their PK success so far this season.
Steelers also lead the league in goals scored (161) with Devils down in 7th netting just 127, six less than Stars.
10 points now separate these teams, although Devils still have 2 games in hand.
This will be the 5th and final home clash so far this season vs their old foes, as mentioned before, all victories on home ice for either side.
Those 4 games are split evenly between both EIHL competitions with 2 more league fixtures in Sheffield to play after this tie.
It doesn’t need more build up to know how important this game is and what fans demand with their expectations.
Ones to Watch
In this clash, the main player that stands out so far this season is Goal Sanford who loves to play and beat the men in orange.
He has 8 points against the Steelers so far (across 7GP) including 6 goals. His nearest opposite in terms of points is Dominic Cormier (8pts) but is apple loaded with 7 helpers vs Devils.
These are a pair that can inflict a lot of misery on enemy nets. The next highest goal scorer between these teams this season is the Goat, Joey Martin with 4.
He was on a 4 goal streak until the weekend, so he would definitely be fired up and looking to get back into things this evening.
Mitch Balmas is the Steelers’ leading scorer in the league (41) and is currently 6pts from his L5GP, failing to extend his run vs Flames last time out.
