All Change for EIHL’s Scottish Teams
Glasgow Clan
A step in which Glasgow are continuing their growth and development under new owner Michael O’Rourke.
New Screens are finally up and running, an overhaul in the match night experience for Clan fans in which the club tries to embrace the pride of their fans and city.
A big step with bringing in the new CEO but on paper it makes a lot of sense! Russell Smith appears to excel in the commercial growth in every business he has worked with previously.
Smith leaves every business in a much better place financially and commercially prior to his arrival.
Fife Flyers
Fife Flyers, are finally up for sale! Is it too late to find a new owner? Potentially. The worth of the club has surely decreased in the last 6 seasons.
Flyers have only made playoffs twice since the clubs historic run in making the final four, meaning this had certainly been a disappointment and fans have unquestionably shown their displeasure at the results.
However as the oldest club in the EIHL and one of the most historic clubs in British hockey, the Flyers name still holds a lot of value both in the UK and in North America.
You’d like to hope the current owners won’t be short of choices in deciding their successor.
The biggest positive around the club is no matter what, the fans will always stay loyal. A potential gold mine for a new owner to come in and invest both on and of the ice, from recruitment to the Auld Barn itself.
Who knows, Fife might even be willing to ice British players as part of its identity, not just necessity.
Could the new owners finally help tap into the great youth system at Fife and help develop a Fife team for the future filled with homegrown nurtured talent? The possibilities are endless at Fife!
Of course this takes nothing away from the current owners Jack Wishart and Tom Muir! 28 years at the helm of the club and they have definitely helped raise the club to new heights!
Here is a run down of their tenure with the Fife Flyers Hockey Club;
British Champions: 98-99 & 99-00
British National League: 99-00 & 03-04
Scottish Cup: 97-98, 98-99, 99-00, 00-01, 05-06, 06-07, 08-09, 09-10
Scottish League: 05-06 & 06-07
Northern League Play-Off: 07-08, 08-09, 10-11
Scottish Premier Hockey Champions: 07-08
Scottish Premier League Play-Off: 07-08
Celtic League Cup & Play-offs: 08-09 & 09-10
Grand Slam: 05-06 & 06-07
Gardiner Conference Champions: 17-18
The Flyers organisation under Muir & Wishart has been nothing short of a success, however since the EIHL era has truly started to modernise and become more aspirational in the competitiveness, this is where they have been left behind.
So can a new owner take Flyers to the next level?
