League Record So Far; 10 – 0 – 2, 20 pts, 1st Place
Devils host struggling Scottish minnows Glasgow Clan for their third clash of the season, after qualifying for the 2025 IIIF Continental Cup Final last weekend.
The qualification came at a cost, with both starters of Ben Bowns and Mac Carruth picking up injuries during the round robin tournament.
Carruth was assessed to be a longer term injury, with Bowns able to dress. For the final group game, they brought in early season back up Maxym Duve, who was on the bench during Carruths earlier injury stint.
This week, the Devils announced a more experienced back up, former Flames goalie Taz Burman. He had a great season in the last campaign and it was a surprise he was still looking for a contract after a couple of solid years in Guildford.
His services would bolster the beleaguered teams’ morale, as they can rely on a league-experienced goalie back stopping for them.
He is starting tonight.
Tale of The Tape
Devils are 4 – 1 – 0 in their last 5GP in the league and are currently on a three game run. At the start of the season, their first handful of games was played against Clan, winning home and away 3:1.
Since then, they have both had differing league fortunes, with Clan making some changes in their line up along the way.
Clan have had a mixed bag of results recently in the league, going 1 – 1 – 3, they will be looking to add to the W column and get one against a team that seems to dominate them in league action.
Devils have beaten Clan for 10 games straight in the league. Their last loss to Clan in April 2022.
The last time Devils started a new goalie was just over a year ago, where Tyler Wall joined for an outgoing Callum Booth and posted a shutout in his first game at the club. No pressure, Burman.
As posted by the league recently, the special teams for both teams will certainly clash tonight, as the leagues top PP unit is Clan with 32.26%. The leagues’ top PK unit surprisingly is Devils, after taking massive hits throughout the campaign so far, posting 88.89%.
Devils have 5 different goal scorers on the PP, 6 overall with Zach O’Brien topping his team on the special units. Clan are 9th overall on the PK.
Their most potent method to net success comes from their power play, at no surprise to anyone. Former Devil Cole Ully leads his team with 3PPGS. 10 goals have been scored on the man advantage for Clan, featuring 6 different scorers.
Almost half of their goals scored so far are on the PP, which is concerning for their team as they sit rock bottom for GS in the table at 26. Devils lead the league with 42GS.
Despite both meetings being relatively close, there is a clear production issue in Glasgow.
Clan languish at the foot of the table of course at 2.17 GFA, with Devils a modest 4th at 3.50GFA. Both meetings reflect this variable, as both clubs are managed by coaches who know each other well and are colleagues for Team GB.
The most positive factor for the Devils team is their current lead for GAA.
1.75 sees them sit atop of the league, with Clan struggling the other end at 4.17. With a new goalie between the pipes, the team will look to play hard in the OZ and defend robustly off the puck to protect him.
It could be the barn stormer the club and fans have been yearning for.
Ones To Watch
Zach O’Brien; He currently sits 4th overall in the league and is pivotal on the PP. with 15 points in 12 GP so far in the league, he is a goal threat against any team.
Cole Ully; The former Devil has 11 points from 9GP and has been instrumental in keeping so hope alive for this team and fans. Third in the league for PPG’s, makes him a potent threat when on the PK. He is Clans top goal scorer, amongst a unit of players with the same points, but is more likely to convert.
