2024/25 IIHF Continental Cup Preview – Part Three

With the hosts, their city, cuisine and the opponents brought up to date, here is how the Devils shape up going in to this tournament group in Slovakia.

They will be looking for a clean sweep, the first in their clubs history with this competition away, as they took a full sweep with them to the final in Angers two seasons ago.

They have a good core of players who have played in this competition on other teams, some winning it, even against their current club.

It has been a mixed bag in the cup for the Devils domestically, as they have 2 games left, with a recent win against current holders, Steelers, comfortably at home.

In November, they have dropped just one game overall against previous Conti Cup winners, Panthers, going for 4 – 1 – 0 overall.

The top players statistically are Zach O’Brien, Josh MacDonald, Reid Duke and Cole Sanford respectively.

O’Brien currently has 24 points in all comps from 20GP, MacDonald 2 shy overall with 22. Reid Duke has been quietly going about his business, putting up 18 points from 20GP and Sanford has been a constant heater since returning from Germany early in the season, putting up 21 points from 18GP in all competitions so far.

Carruth earned his clubs first shutout of the season so far, with Bowns leading the way in the league for goalies with a 1.98 GAA and 94.06 SV%.

Carruth has only recently come back, but takes from 2GP in the league 0.60 GAA and 98.21%. Not bad for his first few games back, with the cup being an achilles heel so far for the team.

Their last triple header was a homecoming weekend, where they agonisingly lost on the road to Panthers, a venue that hasnt been kind to them and took the home games for a 2- 1 – 0.

Anything similar this weekend to qualify for the final will be graciously accepted by all involved.
