Devils Catch Up

League record so far; 9 – 1 – 4, 19 points, 2nd place

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for the organisation and its fans, from a successful trip to Grenoble, France for IIHF Continental Cup action, to an up and down league run, that saw a wagon officially end.

Then there was confirmation of Challenge Cup outcomes and then the big one, the announcement for the final for the Continental Cup. Next up, Glasgow Clan away for the first game of the knockout series in the Challenge Cup. It never stops.

The Devils sit just 3 points behind rivals Sheffield Steelers in 2nd place in the league, after an inspiring run of games, all competitions success and some nice milestones being hit. This was turned on its head, finally some may say, when the Panthers came to town and put the home team away.

Their current league record now sits at 3 – 1 – 1 in the last 5 games played.

This was backed up by a shootout loss in Coventry, a single point salvaged the inevitable collapse, as there was so much hockey played, whether they should beat these teams or not. That’s hockey.

In the mix, was the latest instalment of the Behind the Scenes docuseries, ‘Inside The Cardiff Devils’ by Oliver Hampson, found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mNyr_DHsqk.

Then, the big one. The destination for the 2024 IIHF Continental Cup Final, hosted at the Vindico Arena in Cardiff, also in the same time of year as the Olympic Qualifiers. Big events coming up for the arena and much deserved by the organisation to be hosting these events.

What Next?

Tonight, the Devils face off in Glasgow vs the Clan, for game one of the 1/4 final round of the Challenge Cup. The last time these two faced off, Devils ran home after a riot from a 7 goal rout of the home team, previously beating them in Cardiff, 5-2, from the inaugural 23/24 season EIHL regular season game.

Recently, we have seen Pietroniro and Duggan dress for games, as Batch (illness) and Barrow (Knock) have been allowed to rest. Would they feature again in this first leg?
