Back to Back weekends of back to back wins for the hosts at Vindico Arena, with some extra action as well as extra-curriculars during the games, made for an entertaining weekend again.
Round two vs Amiens started off slow, controlled and well matched for the systems being played, with a focus, as predicted on settling the score from net, instead of throwing knucks at one another.
When the first goal went in, you could sense that would jolt the teams to be more clinical and it was a night that both power plays saw success, with Amiens taking the lead to 3 zip by the end of the 2nd.
A struggling PP for the Devils started to build some familiar frustration to onlookers, along with missed assignments on the PK, helped Amiens re-establish a sense of pride from their performance and antics the night before.
Stick infractions and loss of discipline continued to cloud over the hosts dream start to a new era, with many predictably expecting the early form to come to end this evening.
However, fresh from the 2nd intermission, the character of the team proved once again to be resolute and strong, with incredible goals from the special teams.
Yes, the power play units were successful in finding the net, marshalled at the blue line by the top defensemen last year, Marcus Crawford.
This helped Ryan Barrow continue his points streak, along with Jamie Arniel, who had solid games. Great to see the middle deck providing a strong platform for the team to build on.
Booth stood strong and demonstrated some fantastic reactive skills and covers to help calm things down at the back and build the confidence from his team mates around him.
Devils have now gone 4 from 4 with three of those games needing more than regulation to settle the scores.
Also, Barrow picked up another MOTM for his stand out, tireless performances as a net front presence, winning over fans who may not have known about him.
Next up, the massive Glasgow Clan around in town for another double header, which will definitely test Pete Russells set ups.
Three Stars for tonight;
Third – Trevor Cox
Second – Marcus Crawford
First – Ryan Barrow
